Charles H. Dahlhaus

December 7, 1948 — February 17, 2022

DAHLHAUS, CHARLES HORTON Age 73, passed peacefully at his home on February 17, 2022, with his wife by his side. Charlie was born on December 7, 1948, to the late Beverly (Horton) and Jack Dahlhaus in Elmira, NY. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Nancy Ginnetti. Charlie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis (Ginnetti) Dahlhaus; his children Michelle (John) Adams of Vicksburg, MI, and Brent (Tracey) Dahlhaus of Medina, NY; his six grandchildren: Tyler (Adreanna), Wyatt, Dalton and Gabrielle Adams, and Ella and Gavin Dahlhaus, and his great-granddaughter, Charlotte Adams. Also surviving are his sister, Kay (Paul) Moyer, and brother-in-law, Ron (Christine) Ginnetti; father-in-law Henry Ginnetti; niece and nephews Rob, Jack, Michael, Nicholas, Maria, and Christopher. A 1967 graduate of Southside High School in Elmira, Charlie earned his associate degree from Alfred State in 1969. He joined his father, Jack, in the family owned and operated business, Del Electric, as an electrician, retiring in 2015. He also shared his professional knowledge and electrical wisdom as an employee at Hunt Engineers, Architects & Surveyors, as a teacher of adult education at GST BOCES, and later as an electrical inspector for the City of Elmira. He volunteered his time and talents for many years to ensure the annual festival at St. Mary Our Mother in Horseheads was well-lit and successful. Volunteering his time and talents was a way of life for Charlie, who participated in a variety of activities alongside his children. He served as a Cub Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Master for Sullivan Trail Council, as well as a Girl Scout Leader for Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council. His time and efforts were valued by many, and he was a proud recipient of the Thanks Badge, the highest award given to a Girl Scout volunteer, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He also served as a board member for the Girl Scouts and volunteered with the United Way. We have no doubt that his kindness and laughter touched the lives of many. Above all, Charlie cherished his faith and his family. He was a member of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, where he attended regularly until no longer physically able to do so. He lived his life as a true example of a man of faith. Often slow to anger and quick to forgive, Charlie exemplified love and faithfulness. From camping trips to time at the cottage, he embraced opportunities to make memories, and we are grateful for the many we shared. The family would like to thank the staff at Care First and AIM for the kind and compassionate care they provided during this difficult journey. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 28, 2022 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 11 am in St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin St., Elmira, with Fr. Nicholas Ginnetti as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Care First, 3805 Mead Creek Rd., Painted Post, NY 14870, or the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1010 Davis Street, Elmira, NY 14901.
