Dale W. Aylesworth

AYLESWORTH, Dale William Known affectionately as "Butch" age 72, formally from Elmira, NY who passed away peacefully at home in Spotsylvania, VA. His loving wife and daughter were by his side after a long and courageous battle with COPD. Dale was born in Elmira on May 8, 1946, the son of the late Dellivan and Shirley (Chamberlain) Aylesworth. Dale was also predeceased by his grandson, Alexzander William Aylesworth and his great granddaughter, Mia DePrimo. Dale was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility in 2008 after 27 years of dedicated service. He was an avid outdoors-man and hang glider pilot. Dale loved to fish, hunt, and play baseball. He will be missed dearly by those that knew him. Dale is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 48 years, Joan Gail (Martin) Aylesworth: children; Dale (Jr) Aylesworth of Elmira NY, Amy Aylesworth (Bobby Walborn) of Elmira NY; Elizabeth (Buffy) Aylesworth (Johnny Shawhan) of TN; Brenda (Joseph) Kennedy of Spotsylvania, Virginia and William Scot Wright of NC. Dale had many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Siblings: Linda (Fred) Backer and Marlene Conklin, both of TN and Gary (Joyce) Aylesworth of Hawaii. Uncle: Marvin G. Chamberlain of Elmira, NY and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday, August 14th from 11am to 1pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with Rick Paul officiating. Interment with full military honors, will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the kind, compassionate staff, at Heartland Hospice of Fredericksburg Virginia, for taking such good care of him during his illness. We would like to thank all of his fellow correctional officers at the Elmira Correctional Facility for their love and support.
