Doreen L. Hurlburt

Doreen L. Hurlburt Age 81, of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, August 18, 2024.  Doreen was born in Elmira on April 3, 1943, daughter of the late Vernon and Doris (Wagner) Luckey. She was also predeceased by her sister, Mary McMellen and brother, Louis Cowan. Doreen is survived by her daughters, Penelope (Phillip) Stoner of Elmira, NY and Bridget (Jonathan) LaSalle of Port Orchard, WA; grandchildren, Leah (David) Sorensen, Stephanie (John) Dowell, Caleb (Diane) Stoner, Josiah (Alexis) Stoner, Krissy (Edward) Mackay all of Elmira, NY; Channing (Ben) Benson of Orange Park, FL and Mackenzie Koster (fiancée Thanh Thanh Dao) of Pullman, WA; great grandchildren, Sailor, Annamarie, Esther, Levi, Evelyn, Matthias, Arowyn, Cora, Natalie, Isaac, Christian, Donovan and Finnegan. Doreen retired from United Dividers in Elmira after many years of service. She was a strong hard-working woman who loved her family. She was the grandma that was always at the sporting events and any events her grandchildren were in. They could always count on her to be their biggest cheerleader. This continued right through their college years and into adulthood where she began cheering on her great-grandchildren. She loved to make the holiday’s special and has left lasting memories of family time at her house. She loved Jesus and faithfully followed Him till He called her home. A private graveside service will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Doreen’s life will take place on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 6 pm at the Southern Tier Church of Christ at 351 E. Thurston St. Elmira, NY 14901 with Pastor Justin Coffin officiating. Friends are invited to call at the Southern Tier Church of Christ from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
