Esther F. Hetherton

Hetherton, Esther F. Age 87, formerly of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 in Conway, SC. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, William Hetherton. Esther is survived by her children, Lois (Steven) Plaisted, Carl Hetherton, Jean Pendleton, Susan (Alan) Stuss and Jennifer (Harry) Hillman; grandchildren, Heather, Paula, Jason, Barbara, Nicholas and Coleman and great-grandchildren, Drew, Jake, Erica, Alistair, Lemon, Rowan, Alden and Lennon. Esther was born in Elmira and lived there until her retirement. She was a graduate of Nazareth College BA, then her receiving her master’s degree from Cortland College and Elmira College. Esther was a teacher and reading specialist for 35 years and retired from Elmira Heights School District. She was a sister of St. Joseph’s for 9 years and was a volunteer/member of numerous organizations including Chemung County Reading Council, Horseheads Youth Bureau and Beta Sigma Phi. Esther enjoyed bingo, Atlantic City, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, July 6th from 11 am to 12 pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place there at 12 pm with Father John DeSocio officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery.
