DeRico James M. II
Age 69, of Elmira, NY passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. James was born on April 5, 1949 son of James and Mary (Miller) DeRico. James was called "JD" by his many friends, he was the life of the party and adored by everyone everywhere he went. A decorated Veteran of the Vietnam war, an excellent golfer, hunter, fisherman and artist. James is survived by his significant other of 43 years, Rita Garelle; their two children, Jesse (Amanda) DeRico and Samantha (Jeremy) DeRico; grandsons, Collin, Dominic, Cullen and Brycen DeRico; his sisters; Mary Ellen (Jake) DeRico Dallas, and Gladys (Jim) DeRico; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. James was predeceased by his parents; Jim and Mary DeRico, his beloved son, Jamie DeRico, and several treasured friends. His family is absolutely devastated, and will miss him more than anyone could ever imagine, but he fought so hard for so long and now he’s at peace with all the family and friends that he’s lost along the way. We know he’ll continue to look out for his family, especially his four amazing grandsons who he loved more than anything in the world. Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday, October 10th from 4-7:30 PM at James D Barrett Funeral Home. A remembrance service will follow at 7:30. Interment will take place on Thursday, October 11th at 10 a.m. in at Woodlawn National Cemetery with full military honors.
