Joan C. Towner

Towner, Joan C. Age 85 of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 at home with her family by her side. She was born on January 5, 1940 in Turtle Creek, PA to the late Wilbur and Cecilia Ammon. Joan was predeceased by her husband, James Towner, brother, Donald Ammon and sister, Coletta Ammon. She is survived by her children, Thomas (Cathy) Towner, Deborah (Bruce Cornell) Towner and Michelle (Michael) Slaven; sisters, Judy (John) Ference, Mary Jean (George) Williams and Patty (George) Mc Carrison; sister-in-law, Josie Ammon; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews; bonus children, Nancy Burris-Burns, William Hackett and Karyn Rankin-Hodge. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 18th from 3 to 5 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow there at 5 p.m. with Father John DeSocio officiating. Interment will take place on Wednesday, February 19th at 10 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family would like to give a special thanks to Joan’s caretaker, Debbie Palmer and also to CareFirst and Centerwell.
