John W. Smith

SMITH, John W. of 4108 Rockwell Ave., Horseheads, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the Bath VA Nursing Facility. John was born in Elmira, NY on February 25, 1935 to the late Wilbur and Cecilia (Mehalke) Smith. John was a loving Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend. He retired after 30 years from Hardinge Incorporated and took great pride in his work. He was an Army Veteran, active in Knights of Columbus through St. Mary our Mother Church, Fishing, Gardening and Painting. John was predeceased by his loving wife Marie L. Smith of 48 years, son Keith Smith and daughter Patricia (Ronald) Gulich; brothers Albert (Barbara) J. Smith, Francis (Elizabeth) E. Smith; sisters Caroline (Huntly) Shelton and Mary A. Smith. John is survived by his son, Scott (Beth) Smith; daughter, Veronica (Robert) Whitaker; grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole) Gulich, Darek Gulich, Chad Smith and his fiancé Ashley Rice, Corrine Smith and Megan (Justin) Tombs; great grandchildren Ryan, Lauren and Madalynn Gulich, Julian and Aubria Smith, Abigail and Lincoln Tombs; brother, Robert (Doris) C. Smith, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. John’s wishes are for a private family service to be held at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Burial will be held at St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Southern Tier Hospice.
