Jose Angelo Santiago Lopez II
Age 47, known affectionally as “Pug” passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 16, 2023. Jose was born in Elmira, NY on April 12, 1976, to the late, Jose Angelo Santiago Lopez Sr. and Arlene Lucille Lafler Seemer. He was also predeceased by his, stepfather, Eugene Seemer, son, Richard (Ricky), sister, Sheila Devos (Albion), brother-in law, Michael Calderon. Jose is survived by his loving fiancé of 12 years, Kelly Swan of Elmira ; son, Christian Lopez of Elmira; step children, DeVante Hall, Trevon (Julia Loudenslager) Swan, Terrell Swan, Keanna Rawlings( daughter-in love) all of Elmira; grandchildren, LaShawn and Alaiya both of Elmira; brothers, Donald (Tammy) Tyo of Horseheads, Sonny Joseph Lopez and Richard Bennett both of Brockport; sisters, Renee Collins of Rochester, Michelle L. (Art) VanSickle of Elmira, Francisca D. Lopez of Elmira and Melinda Mae Ramos of Elmira; brother-in law, Jamie(Jennifer) Robinson of Horseheads; close friends, Jordan Harris, James Harris, Nyheim Brown, Dobber, and lifelong friends, Daryl Gardner and Steve Proctor. He was loved by a host of nieces and nephews, friends, student athletes, and the local community. After attending Elmira city schools, Jose held various jobs in landscaping and carpentry, but more recently, Jose was employed as a bus aide. At the age of 18, Jose developed a love for coaching various sports: football, soccer and basketball. In 2020, Jose co-founded El Town Elite Basketball initially for boys, but later adding a girls’ team in 2022. Jose believed that it took a village to empower the youth. His mantra was, “Community built; family strong”. His desire and passion were to provide opportunities for the Elmira youth and that was exactly what he accomplished. In true Jose fashion, he coached that having heart and working hard will get the “dub”…on and off the court. Jose cherished the times he spent with Kelly, family, and friends. He loved traveling, cooking, fishing and playing chess. He will always be remembered for being the best supporter of his community. Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, April 24th from 11 AM to 1 PM at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home, Elmira, NY. Funeral services will take place there at 1pm. Interment will follow in Maple Grove cemetery,715 W. Broad Street Horseheads, NY 14845. Friends and family are invited to attend a repass held on Tuesday, April 25th at the Family Fitness Center (YMCA) from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM at 425 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY 14904.
