Stanton, Joseph A. Sr.
Age 88, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on November 21, 1930 in Elmira, NY to the late William and Lucelia (Galpin) Stanton. Joseph was predeceased by his son, Joseph Stanton Jr., brothers, William, James and Leroy Stanton, sister, Winifred Perry and son-in-law, Douglas Learned. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Squires) Stanton of Elmira; sons, David (Wendy) Stanton of Pittsburgh, PA, Jan (Kimberly) Stanton of Elmira and Phillip (Alexandra) Stanton of Ewing, NJ; daughters, Charlene Learned of Elmira and Becky (Alvin) Janowski of Catlin, NY; brothers, John (Christine) Stanton of Horseheads and Charles (June) Stanton of Big Flats; daughter-in-law, AnnaJo Stanton of Maricopa, AZ; 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. Joseph was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He retired from the Elmira Housing Authority after many years of service. Joseph was involved with Tom Sawyer Little League and the Boy Scouts of America and he loved hunting and fishing. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, November 30th from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Horseheads American Legion Post 442, 71 Old Ithaca Rd., Horseheads, NY. Interment was held privately to the family in Woodlawn National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to the James D. Barrett Funeral Home.
