Joyce A. Shutts

SHUTTS, Joyce A. Of Henerietta, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester, NY. Joyce was born in Elmira, NY on August 10, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Adrian and Verna (Horton) Austin. Joyce was also predeceased by her late husband, Robert in 2010 and her brother, Lawrence Austin. Joyce retired from the Harris Corporation after many years as an administration assistant and marketing associate. Joyce also worked for Corning Incorporated for 29 years as an executive secretary. She obtained a marketing degree from Monroe County Community College in Rochester, NY. She also loved crafts and painting and loved to travel. She was a faithful member of the West Henrietta Baptist Church, along with volunteering with the Friends In Service Here (FISH) providing transportation for individuals in need in the Honeoye Falls and Lima region. She loved searching for her genealogy, but most of all, she loved her family. She is survived by her children, Stephen P. (Beverly) Young of Baldwinsville, NY, Dean R. (Kelli Mallinger) Young of Richmond, VA, Leslie B. Shutts of Lady Smith, VA, and Laura L. (Richard) Gilbert of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Megan, Daryl, Fran, Shane, Jack and Harry; great grandchildren, Hannah and Kora; sister, Virginia (Paul) Doud; sister-in-law, Christina Austin. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 11 am to 1 pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home at 1004 Lake St., Elmira, NY. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Rev. Dr. Peter E. Grinion officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joyce can be made to the West Henrietta Baptist Church, 5660 West Henrietta Rd., West Henrietta, NY 14586.
