Lucy Blandford Johnson Brown born May 3, 1927, in Elmira, N. Y. Lucy was called home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2022, after a brief illness. Lucy is the daughter of the late Clayton D. Blandford and Katherine (Cooper) Blandford. Lucy was the eighth of nine children. She is survived by her sisters, Joyce Buncom and Leslie Blandford. She is also survived by her daughter, Beverly E. (Charles) Hampton, son, Darryl W. (Rhona) Johnson, Dante C. (Tonya) Johnson, Shelli N. Johnson-Jones, and Willa (Pookey) Slates all of whom she raised as her own children; Grandchildren, Keisha Johnson, Anthony Gelzer, Stephanie Johnson, and Jamel Phillips. Lucy is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her two husbands, Theodore (Shorty) Johnson and Charles H. Brown and son Stephen D. Johnson. Lucy is a retired nurse from Chemung County Health Department and Albion Correctional Facility. Lucy founded and served as president of the John W. Jones Restoration Project. Lucy was also a Eucharistic Minister at Grace Episcopal Church for 30 years. Lucy was one of the first to host a family from Somalia in the early nineties. The family thanks the staff of St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing Unit where Lucy resided the past 4 years, for their professional care and support. The family welcomes relatives and friends to join them at Faith Temple Community Church, 765 Harper Street, Elmira, NY on Tuesday September 20, 2022, from 10 am to 12 pm for calling hours and 12 noon for the Funeral Service. Interment with committal prayer will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the John W. Jones Museum, P.O. Box 932, Elmira, NY 14902.
