Margaret A. Rice

RICE, Margaret A. “Peggy” Age 76, of Elmira, NY passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Elcor Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Horseheads, NY. Margaret was born in Jersey Shore, PA on December 28, 1940, daughter of the late Howard and Margaret (Young) Beck. Margaret retired from the City of Elmira Dept. of Public Works after many years of service. Margaret is survived by her 11 children, Merle Moore II, Elden Moore, Loretta Miller, Cindy Rice, Marvin Rice, William H. Rice Jr., Glenn Rice, Marsha Rice, Linda Wandell, Shirley Rice and Jody Rice; many grandchildren and many great grandchildren; sisters, Helen McDonald, Ella (Ike) Savey, Louise (Dick) Kemp and Irene (Ralph) Gilbert; brother, Howard (Diane) Beck; many nieces and nephew; brother-in-law, Bob Steinger; good friend, Rosie Edger. Peggy Ann was predeceased by her husband, William H. Rice Sr.in 2006 and her sister, Nancy Steinger. A very special thank you to Margaret’s grandson, Merle “Champ”Moore III for all that he has done for his grandmother. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 4 to 6 pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 6pm. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery on Wednesday, August 2nd at 10 am. Peggy’s family would like to thank the staff of Elcor and Carefirst for the wonderful care they provided for Peggy during her difficult time. Peggy loved nature and all animals. She found beauty in everything that life had to offer. She will be missed dearly by all those that knew Peggy.
