Rita H. Burke

BURKE, Rita H. Age 94, Fairport, formerly of Big Flats, NY, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020, one day shy of her 95th birthday. Rita was born on December 22, 1925 in New York City, daughter of the late George and Beatrice (Kearney) Hoffmann. She graduated from Hunter College, New York. Rita retired from Notre Dame High School in Elmira, NY after many years of caring and dedicated service. As a lifelong devoted Catholic, her kind and loving presence was recognized immediately by everyone who was blessed enough to cross paths with her. She was quick to share a witty joke or story. Rita was loved and respected by her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.Rita was predeceased by her husband, Francis in 1995, and her sons Patrick in 2019 and Christopher in 2011. Rita is survived by her other children, Francis (Karen Companion), Joseph (Joyce), Rosemary (Daniel Childs), Jeanmarie, Gerard (Cherie), and Maurita(Stephen Baumeister); grandchildren, Timothy Burke, Nichole Andrews, Janelle, Johanna, and Justine Burke, Caileen (Patrick Leavy), Marc, Ryan, and Aidan Childs, Molly, Sean, and James Burke, and Noelle, Matthew, and Erin Baumeister. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A private family service will take place at St. Mary Our Mother Church, Horseheads on January 2. A Mass celebrating her life will take place at a later date when it is safe.
