Roy Barber Sr.

April 1, 1934 — November 21, 2025

Roy Barber Sr.,

Age 91, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, in Elmira, New York. Roy was born on April 1, 1934, in Washington Township, Pennsylvania. Roy lived a long and full life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a deep commitment to his community.

Roy proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from November 1952 to January 1953. He worked as a heavy vehicle driver and continued his military service until March of 1955. His time in the Army reflected his strong sense of duty and resilience-qualities that would define much of his life.

Following his military service, Roy embarked on a career in construction that spanned over four decades. His work ethic and craftsmanship left a lasting impact on the many projects he contributed to throughout the years. Whether building homes or working on infrastructure, Roy took pride in every task he undertook.

Beyond his professional life, Roy was deeply involved in his community. He was a lifetime member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Pine City Sportsman's Club. These affiliations were more than just memberships, they were reflections of his values: camaraderie, service, and a love for the outdoors.

Gardening was one of Roy's greatest joys. He found peace and purpose in tending to his plants and watching them grow season after season. His garden was not only a source of beauty but also a place where he shared stories and laughter with those who visited.

Roy will be remembered by many for his generous spirit and infectious humor. He had an uncanny ability to lift spirits with a well-timed joke or playful prank. Those who knew him best recall how he always went the extra mile to help someone in need, whether it was offering a helping hand or simply being there with a smile.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Steven Barber; Nancy (Barber) Lawrence; Ruthan Barber; and Roy Barber Jr. He was also cherished by his grandchildren, Stephanie Lamphere Adams and her children; James Lamphere with Brandy and their children; and Kristen McClure with Todd and their four children.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and John Barber; as well as his son, Thomas Barber.

May Roy's memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire kindness, laughter, and generosity for generations to come.

A Celebration of Roy's Life will be held on December 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at VFW, 113 Keefe Street Elmira NY, 14904.
