Shirley Yvonne Kitchings Kambeitz was born April 2, 1957 to the late Allen
Walker and Eartha Lee Kitchings in Elmira, NY. She is also predeceased by
her oldest brother, James Kitchings. Shirley (“Cheryl”) was born and raised here in Elmira. She was a graduate of the Elmira City School District and was also a retiree of the district after 20 years of service. Other places of employment were with Elcor Nursing Facility in Horseheads, NY, the former WIN Auto Glass, and United Dividers of Elmira New York. In the Spring of 2002 “Cheryl” married the love of her life Shawn Kambeitz. Together they traveled, went fishing, and centered activities and events around
their grandchildren. Grandpa Shawn and grandma Cheryl were very present in their lives. Cheryl loved her family and greatly enjoyed their presence. Additionally, much fun was had when she and friends, together known as “3 The HardWay” connected for an enjoyable time. They too celebrated special occasions or simply had an evening gathering. For music she enjoyed the old Motown sounds and would step to her signature dance and finger snapping. “You see, she only had that one dance”, said her daughter Marti --lol. Shirley transitioned from this life on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 surrounded by the love and care of family and friends. Her memory will always be cherished in the lives of her husband of 21 years Shawn Kambeitz of Elmira, NY; daughter Martonia Pittman of Elmira, NY: sisters: Loretta Kitchings of Elmira, NY and Loraine Kitchings of Springfield, MA; brother: Lewis Kitchings of Elmira, NY; grandchildren: Delvon Graham of Syracuse, NY, Tasharie Jones, and Ajeea McCoy both of Elmira, NY; mother-in-law, Susan Kambeitz of Horseheads, NY; a host of great-
grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 12-1pm at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow with Rev, Juhura Shazer officiating. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
