Butler, Virginia
Age 86, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 at home after an extended illness. She was born on July 12, 1931 in Queens, NY to the late John and Bertha (Schluter) Butler. Virginia was predeceased by a brother and a sister and special nephew, Paul Clark. She is survived by her sisters, Helen Clark and Audrey Horton both of Elmira; special nieces and nephews, Helen Vincent, Alan (Susan) Clark, Patricia (Keith) Miller, Starlene Diotalevi, Edward (Karen) Horton, John (Deborah) Horton, Amy Horton and John Devendorf; along with several other nieces and nephews and special caregiver, Sylvia Fontanilla. Virginia's entire career was spent as an educator with the Norwalk School District in Norwalk, CT. She was a faithful member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Corning for many years and she volunteered for Catholic Charities and was in charge of the Christmas Basket Project for many years. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, March 24th from 1 to 2 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow there at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gerhard Grabenhofer officiating. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the caregivers who provided such compassionate care to Virginia over the last 10 years.
